So Ian took me for me Basi 3 pré assessment in Cairngorm when it was the only place to do your exams otherwise you were not considered a real skier .
He was a gentle thoughtful trainer and I never forgot him so it was lovely to be in his company again in Chatel .

I was a fellow producer with Ian in RTÉ. Our professional paths did not cross very often, but I always found Ian to be a friendly, curious and friendly colleague who always had time for a greeting and an exchange of pleasantries
Had many a laugh with Ian on Fair City (Ian directing and me vision mixing) Every week I’d ask where he was taking you Jane on “date night”!
Oh Jane, I am so very sorry to read this news. My heart goes out to you both and to Tamsen and Kirsty. Every memory I have of Ian is of a highly intelligent consumate professional and such a talented director with many funny stories from his time as a drummer with the great Irish musos .
I will look for photos when I can. You are such a strong woman but even you will need help and support during these difficult times. Your wonderful daughters and your many friends will be there for you I’m sure. I am too, in every way I can. Sending love and hugs.
I first met Ian in the Bluesville days, when he played with Mick Molloy and Deke O’Brien, who were classmates of mine in CBC. I played with various groups, including The Inmates with Bren Bonass ( when I left Paul Brady joined..).
A few years later I was one of a number of guys who occasionally met for lunch in Jonathan’s on Grafton St.: Brendan Balfe, Peter Blake, Dermot Herbert, Andy Marr, Shay Healy and Ian. When I was “dragged away” skiing for the first time (to Livigno) in 1980, Ian lent me some ski gear: I still remember his gloves with Head written on them….!! After that trip it was all downhill for me…..ending up at the 1998 Olympics and four World Championships …..but only as team manager. ( “I cudda bin a contender !!!”…not !!!)….

The groups always loved being taught by an ex-olympic trainer- particularly on race day vs their parents!
Ian, the smoothest skier I’ve ever seen; sadly did not ski enough with you. Spent time with you at the chalet with a small input to the girls fitness programme following work at BSA: the first time I visited Chatel. Also links with IASI and delivering talks in Dublin. Here in the image is a memory of working for you Millennium New Year including you asking me to do some instructor training on teaching styles!
So sorry to hear this Jane I was always very fond of Ian and worked with him a lot in the entertainment department. Sadly I have no photos only fond memories. I’m sending love and light to you all. Also agree with many of the above comments about your bravery sharing this post ❤️❤️
So sad to hear this news Jane. Ian was one of the first Producers I worked with in RTÉ and he was always a great man for the new technology. The first person I knew to own a mobile phone even if it was the size of a brick and the battery needed a briefcase. A man of many talents who certainly knew how to make the most of his time and always encouraged others with ability. Big hugs to you both.🤗🤗😘😘
